• Mowgli - I Gotta Feeling

Deadfish Audio’s label owner Mowgli is a rather hit and miss producer for me, but when he hits, he hits hard! I just can’t seem to get tired of his older jams like London To Paris and I Want Everything. This new track sounds like something that can be equally long-lasting as the former two I mentioned.

His latest release isn’t on his own, but on Sander Kleinenberg’s This Is… label. It has a deeper feel to it, which slightly contrasts with his otherwise techy house sound, proving that he’s not going to be burning out any time soon. Deep house seems to be dominating the scene lately being pushed forward by labels as Hot Natured, and Mowgli seems to be positively adapting to the situation.

Check out the video below, and purchase it from Beatport, iTunes or anywhere else.

    July Chart: Summer Edition

Since I was on holiday and had a two week internet hiatus, I can’t really judge what my top 10 would be for July as I’m still digging through the endless mass I’ve missed. Instead, here’s a selection of both old and new tracks that really made up for the relatively bad weather the south of France had this year.

    1. Breakbot - Baby I’m Yours (ft. Irfane) // Ed Banger
    2. Cassie ft. Diddy - Must Be Love (Jacques Greene Remix) // White (download)
    3. Hot Natured - Forward Motion (ft. Ali Love) // Hot Creations
    4. Mix Chopin - Tight // Solid Bump
    5. Homework - Hudson Square // Exploited
    6. Alex Metric & Steve Angello ft. Ian Brown - Open Your Eyes (Style Of Eye Dub) // Positiva7. Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) // White (download)
    8. Breakbot - Fantasy (ft. Ruckazoid) // Ed Banger
    9. Azari & III - Reckless With Your Love (Tensnake Remix) // Permanent Vacation
    10. Joy Orbison - Hyph Mngo // Hot Flush

    Danny Daze - Your Everything

Lee Foss’ label Hot Creations has been on fire lately. After bringing us Forward Motion, the huge track by himself and Jamie Jones as Hot Natured, Danny Daze’s EP which dropped digitally today is just as huge, something I didn’t expect to see soon after the former.

I’ve had the A-side in my head all day. It sounds very Hot Creation-esque with it’s bizarre bassline, simple yet effective house beat and hypnotizing vocals. My favorite of the two might be the B-side though, entitled Fall Away From Love. It’s way less anthemic, but in my opinion more danceable with a more jacking feel and less deep elements.

Preview the two on Danny Daze’s Soundcloud below, and pick the EP up on good old Beatport or shiny new Beatport Beta. He also has a great free remix of Detroit Grand Pubahs’ Sandwiches which is embedded underneath.

Beni - It’s A Bubble (Round Table Knights Remix)

A few months ago, The Magician gave away his blissful remix of Beni’s It’s A Bubble who, come to think of it, has really come a far way in a short amount of time. Anyway, the full release is coming up on Modular and yet another remix has been given away, this time a Round Table Knights interpretation. What’s interesting in this matter is that both remixes used completely different parts the original mix, which means it’s hard to tell that they are actually remixes of the same track.

Round Table Knights gave it, as expected, a house treatment. I like how they did this, it’s like they grabbed all the elements from the original which are essentially cliché house when put in the right context. What does this produce? Everything you can think of when you hear the word house including pianos, saxophones and spoken word all laid down on a jackin’ beat.

As far as I know, there’s no official date for the whole package yet it should be released July 29th. His album was due April but seems to have been pushed back too. Here’s the Round Table Knights remix for download, as Modular gave it away via Beatportal. Also, The Magician remix is downloadable from his Soundcloud in case you missed that gem.

    Joris Voorn live at Awakenings

As you may have seen in my June chart which was posted up yesterday, I’ve been loving pretty much everything Joris Voorn has been doing lately. His collab EP with Nic and Mark Fanciulli kills it, and now he’s treated us with a two hour long DJ set recorded from the dutch Awakenings festival.

Joris is one of the few who uses Traktor in a more next-level way of doing things by regularly using four decks and taking great advantage of loops and effects. All controlled with a Xone:1D and mixed with a Pioneer DJM-2000. You can watch him at work in one of the Awakenings aftermovies in glorious 1080p. Check out the whole channel while your at it, fragments of many different sets with Dave Clarke playing the Boys Noize remix of his classic Red 2 being one of the more notable ones.

    Boy 8-Bit - Madrigal EP

A few weeks ago I posted a Boy 8-Bit free giveaway entitled Fire Extinguisher, a track from the EP which has been officially released this week on This Is Music. However, the man was nice enough to give away the whole EP for free before the release!

I really can’t pick a favorite. At first it was Fire Extinguisher without a doubt, but Black Satanic Mysticism and Madrigal really started growing on me. Anyway, either download the EP from his Soundcloud, and/or buy it on Beatport.

Besides the EP, he has also just released a remix of Retro/Grade’s new single, of which there’s also a remix contest going on. Pick the full package up on Beatport!

    Oli Furness

I randomly came across this guy on the big cloud of sound the other day. Oli Furness is a Manchester’s based house producer who I’ve come to love thanks to his deep, raw sounds. Dreams Of A Trojan is a nice example of it with it’s positive repetitiveness and deep, dreamy synths.

He already has a few releases on Beatport, but I’m more excited about the unreleased stuff. His next EP entitled Death Of A Musicbox should be out soon and can be previewed on his Soundcloud. For now, enjoy his bootleg of Stevie V’s classic track Dirty Cash.

Ink Project - Call On Me

Time for a little change of vibe for this post. I’ve been following Ink Project ever since I fell in love with Eye of Glass, a track of theirs which even gained support from one of my favorite radio dj’s Gilles Peterson. They just released their first single entitled Call On Me on Eight FX. The package contains the original, a downtempo alternative mix and two dubstep remixes.

Call On Me is a high energy track which is, like the rest of their music, hard to name genre-wise. It’s full of trip hop and dubstep influences, with a bit of industrial thrown in between. They actually sound like a more modern Massive Attack. I have to admit I wasn’t too keen on this track at first but it certainly is a grower. Currently the duo is working hard on their debut album, which should be released later this year. There’s a lot of good unreleased stuff on their Soundcloud, so keep an eye on these guys in the near future.

Preview the EP on Soundcloud, and pick up the whole EP on Beatport, iTunes, 7digital or anywhere else. Below is an older track of theirs which is free to download.

    Ink Project - Flicker

JJ Le Basco - Rices EP

Monkey See Monkey Do seems to be on a roll tight now, Hector & Nate’s Big City EP, a most likely huge upcoming Faisal release and now three great tech house tracks by JJ Le Basco, which totally caught me by surprise.

Despite already having a few releases, there doesn’t seem to be much info found on the guy. All I can say is he’s South African and only recently has been doing tech house coming from a fidget background. As mentioned, his latest three-track EP is signed to Belgian-based Monkey See Monkey Do. The tracks are deep and slightly minimal influenced tech house with a focus on mid range tropical sounds. The sound is recognizable throughout the release which makes this a nice, consistent EP.

Previews below, and pick it up from Beatport, Juno, iTunes or anywhere else.
